THE STORY OF THE EARTH / Ayşe Berfin Boztosun
This project involves the design of a Geological Museum located in the Üngüt neighborhood of Kahramanmaraş, an area expected to play a crucial role in the city’s future development. The museum is intended to not only showcase the region’s geological history but also offer an immersive experience that connects visitors with the local cultural, geographical, and natural environments.
The design is organized around three main exhibition areas: Local Geological Heritage, Layers of Time, and The Living Underground. These spaces combine scientific knowledge with sensory experience, allowing visitors to engage with the museum’s content in a more interactive and intuitive way. Elements such as sound, texture, temperature, and scent are incorporated to enrich the spatial experience.
The museum’s layout responds to the sloped topography of the site, balancing underground and above-ground volumes. This approach ensures the building integrates seamlessly into the landscape, while creating open spaces that facilitate movement and provide visual connections to the surrounding environment.
The museum is designed as a social and cultural hub, contributing to the revitalization of the Üngüt neighborhood. It serves as a gathering place for both local residents and students, offering a space for learning and interaction within the context of urban transformation.
