WEAVE OF MEMORY / Mouayad Basrak

This design proposes a modular intervention along the southern façade of Kayseri Castle, transforming the historic wall into an active, narrative-driven public space. The project unfolds as a timeline journey, guiding visitors through the traditional stages of carpet-making and transitioning into a contemporary sensory and light museum experience.

The sequence begins with the Raw Material & Dyeing Unit, where users engage with natural fibers and colors. It flows into the Pattern & Motif Interpretation Unit, focusing on cultural symbols and visual language, and then into the Weaving Unit, where the act of making becomes physical. From there, a sunroom ramp — filled with colored glass mosaics — leads to the final destination: a Light Museum that transforms traditional carpet motifs into interactive, illuminated installations.

Each unit is designed as a plug-in module, respecting the castle’s historic integrity while creating accessible, educational, and immersive spaces. The intervention blends craft, architecture, and public memory, offering a bridge between the past and future through both material and experiential continuity.
