Instructors
Assist. Prof. Buket METİN, Assoc. Prof. Özlem KEVSEROĞLU KURBAN
Course Description
Studio 2 deals with an advanced design challenge to criticize existing urban patterns and develop interdisciplinary approaches for its spatial transformation from a global perspective. Studio 2 tackles the city as a built environment and seeks a new spatial design challenge to reconsider its social and physical aspects in a global context. It aims to (re)produce the space and architectural artifact to explore its contradictions in daily life in an interdisciplinary context.
Design Topic
ARCH502 Studio 2 builds upon the research and design scenarios developed in ARCH501 Studio 1, focusing on developing strategic approaches within the Erkilet district of Kayseri, specifically in Mithatpaşa, Yeşil, Oruç Reis, Sancaktepe, Ertuğrul Gazi, Osman Gazi, Erkilet, and General Emir neighborhoods. Within the context of the studio, students will formulate rehabilitation proposals for the existing built environment and develop roadmaps for areas open to new development, focusing urban, neighborhood, and building scales. These strategies will be structured on the previously identified scenarios based on technological advancements, green transformation practices, green consensus processes, and sustainable development goals. The proposals will aim to enhance spatial and social conditions while embedding sustainable design solutions in a scale-responsive manner. Ultimately, the studio will emphasize participatory approaches, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the integration of contemporary urban and architectural methodologies to foster a resilient and sustainable transformation of the area across multiple scales.
