This project proposes a museum in Beşiktaş that challenges the conventional white cube exhibition model and instead introduces an experiential and inhabitable spatial system. Rather than positioning users as passive observers, the museum encourages active participation through movement, interaction, and occupation.
The architectural form is generated by a grid based system derived from the surrounding urban fabric of Beşiktaş. This contextual grid is extended into the site and becomes the primary organizational framework of the project. More than a neutral ordering device, the grid actively shapes space, circulation, and program, forming the spatial identity of the museum.
At the core of the project lies the idea of a stair museum. The staircase is redefined not as a secondary circulation element but as the main architectural and experiential component. Within the grid, stair elements multiply and transform into stepped platforms that support exhibition, seating, resting, and social interaction. Spaces are formed on, within, and beneath these elements, creating layered and dynamic spatial relationships.
Through this approach, circulation becomes a living spatial infrastructure. It becomes a place to sit, lie down, observe, interact, and gather. Movement is no longer linear or purely functional, but a bodily and spatial experience that unfolds through use.
Ultimately, the project reimagines circulation as an inhabited landscape where movement and pause coexist and where architecture itself becomes an active medium of exhibition.
