THRESHOLD OF MEMORY / PELİN TEMUÇİN

The project proposes a contemporary museum complex conceived as an integrated architectural landscape rather than a singular object. The design is grounded in the idea of architecture as a spatial mediator between past, present, and future, aligning with a progressive museology approach that prioritizes experience, interaction, and continuity over static exhibition spaces.

At the urban scale, the project establishes a clear organizational logic through a system of intersecting axes. These axes structure movement, orientation, and visual connections across the site, guiding visitors intuitively through the museum grounds. The convergence points of these axes are deliberately emphasized as moments of pause and interaction. One of these intersections is developed into a central gathering space that functions as an amphitheater and resting point, encouraging social engagement, informal learning, and prolonged occupancy rather than rapid circulation.

Formally, the museum is shaped through a parametric and triangular geometric language. This geometry allows the building envelope to adapt fluidly to the site while maintaining a strong and recognizable identity. Instead of relying on rigid terracing, the building transitions softly into the surrounding ground, reinforcing continuity between built form and landscape. The roof shell becomes the dominant architectural element, defining interior volumes and filtering light while visually unifying the complex.

Spatially, the project is organized through varying section heights that respond to different programmatic needs. Lower volumes accommodate intimate exhibition and educational spaces, while taller sections allow for double-height galleries and expansive public interiors. This sectional diversity enhances spatial richness and supports multiple modes of use.

Ultimately, the project aims to redefine the museum as a living civic platform. It is not only a container for artifacts, but a dynamic environment for learning, gathering, and cultural exchange, embedded seamlessly within its urban and social context.
