Located in the Talas district of Kayseri, an area characterized by a dense population of students and young professionals, COLLECTIVE is envisioned as an architectural response to contemporary urban challenges such as social isolation and the inadequacy of domestic spaces for working. The project proposes a living “co-living & co-working” ecosystem that balances individual privacy with collective productivity under a single roof. By merging living, working, and socializing within a shared spatial framework, the design offers a participatory environment tailored for modern urban life.
The ground floor serves as the primary layer where social and professional lives intersect. A social hub in the form of a café and a productive coworking space are separated by a spatial threshold an open transition area defined by a central tree. This area not only defines the main entrance but also creates a serene pause point for users, ensuring controlled interaction between functions while providing direct access to the shared circulation core.
In the residential units on the upper floors, unique strategies are implemented based on varying user needs. In the 1+1 units, which are positioned closer to the ground-floor social activity, private terraces are omitted to maximize spatial efficiency. In contrast, the 2+1 units, which offer a more spacious layout, and the more compact 1+0 units are supported by generous terrace configurations that radically extend the boundaries of the interior outward. By challenging conventional housing typologies, these qualitative openings integrate living spaces with an expansive sky-view experience, providing users with high psychological comfort.
The building mass is shaped through a stepped configuration, receding on upper levels to enhance daylight access and create private outdoor retreats. At the rear of the building, a shared outdoor space located in a quiet corner and defined by integrated seating benches acts as a social knot for residents, complete with a fire pit and relaxation areas.
Ultimately, COLLECTIVE offers a human-centered and participatory ecosystem that strengthens collective interaction in the fabric of contemporary urban living.
