“The Living Library” is a mixed-use architectural project that re-imagines the relationship between public knowledge and private living. Designed as a unified structure where learning anchors the home, the project proposes that a community’s strength rises directly from its access to information. 

The design strategy is driven by a distinct vertical stratification of functions, separating the public realm from the private while maintaining a symbiotic relationship between them. The ground floor is conceived as a “transparent urban living room.” Utilizing a permeable glass façade, this level houses the public library, inviting the city inside and blurring the boundaries between the exterior landscape and the interior sanctuary of thought. This transparency transforms the library into an accessible foundation for the structure above. 

Rising above this public base, the upper residential layers are designed as a “sanctuary for the soul.” In contrast to the open ground floor, these levels offer the necessary enclosure and privacy for domestic life. The façade shifts to a more solid aesthetic with rhythmic window openings, creating a peaceful environment where the profound silence of the book meets the vibrant rhythm of daily life. 

The plan organization features a dynamic geometry that creates unique spatial pockets for reading and interaction on the ground floor, while the basement level supports the building’s functional needs. By integrating these distinct layers, the project transforms from a mere building into a living organism, creating a seamless interface where the home breathes life into learning.
