Urban Bloom

Urban Bloom-Elif Gözelle

Urban Bloom is envisioned as a social innovation hub that responds to the ecological and urban
challenges facing Maraş, particularly in the context of post-earthquake redevelopment and shrinking
agricultural landscapes. Situated at the threshold between the historic urban fabric and the emerging
development axis—near the revitalized Trabzon Street—the project acts as a connective tissue
between past resilience and future adaptation.
At its core, Urban Bloom promotes urban farming as a sustainable and inclusive strategy,
transforming underutilized urban land into a vibrant platform for ecological cultivation, education,
and community engagement. It offers a third place—beyond home and work—where individuals
come together to share knowledge, cultivate food, and foster innovation.
Architecturally, the building features two main entrances, each serving a distinct yet interconnected
program. One entrance primarily serves the workshop and cultivation areas, supporting hands-on
learning and ecological production. The other provides access to the innovation offices, fostering
collaboration between researchers, entrepreneurs, and community stakeholders. These two
functional zones are seamlessly linked through an internal circulation system, promoting
interdisciplinary interaction and integrated use of space.
The design culminates in a green roof, which functions as both a social space and an active
production zone. This elevated landscape supports urban agriculture while encouraging informal
gatherings, educational events, and cross-sector dialogue under open skies.
Guided by principles of the Circular Economy, the project emphasizes regulation, synergies, and the
co-creation of knowledge, offering a resilient, adaptive model for sustainable urban living. Urban
Bloom not only addresses immediate post-disaster needs but also establishes a long-term vision for
regenerative city-making.
