TRASNPORTATION HUB: VISIBLE FLOW HUB / BERRA ÖZKÜÇÜK

Located in the heart of Kayseri Cumhuriyet Square, the Transportation Hub reinterprets mobility infrastructure as a public destination rather than a mere transit point. Positioned above the underground tram system and connected to the city’s primary pedestrian flows, the project transforms movement into social interaction, learning, observation, and cultural exchange.

The design is shaped by the historical and spatial character of its surroundings. Visual relationships are established with significant urban landmarks such as Kayseri Castle, Ulu Cami, Bürüngüz Mosque, Kurşunlu Mosque, the Covered Bazaar, and the historic inns. These references generate directional extensions and varying floor levels, creating a dynamic spatial composition that responds to the city’s silhouette.

At the core of the project is the idea of the “urban silhouette.” Transparent façades reveal the activity occurring on different levels, allowing users to become visible elements of the cityscape. The building acts as a living urban stage where movement, gathering, and observation continuously shape the experience of space.

A system of ramps, stairs, bridges, and escalators connects the varying floor plates, creating a continuous spatial journey from the tram platforms at -18 meters to the public terraces above. Beyond transportation functions, the hub accommodates reading areas, workshops, exhibition spaces, performance zones, cafés, community tables, and viewing platforms, establishing a vibrant third place that remains active throughout the day and night.
