Palimpsest Nexus

Palimpsest Nexus / Mehmet Davutoğlu

Palimpsest Nexus is an experiential center that transforms the multi-layered historical and cultural structure of Kahramanmaraş into a contemporary architectural narrative. The project reworks the traces of the past, extending from the Hittites to the Dulkadiroğulları, from the Ottomans to the present, in a structural system that starts with the ground and rises by layering. The structure, constructed with a hybrid load-bearing system of rammed earth and steel, offers a production model that is both compatible with nature and includes local materials and memory in the construction process. The interior program is enriched with functions that interpret local identity in a contemporary language, such as contemporary craft laboratories, archive streets, exhibition areas, archaeological narrative halls. The structure is not only an exhibition space; it is also a production area where the past is rewritten with artificial intelligence and robotic production. Open and semi-open spaces are shaped with reference to the relationship established with water from the past to the present. Palimpsest Nexus reweaves the cultural memory of the city in a temporal context, processes, multiplies and transfers memory through physical space to the future. Rammed earth walls show the layers of the ground. The curved forms are inspired by the plateau-mountain-water context of Maraş.
