TexCycle: A Sustainable Textile Upcycling Hub in Kahramanmaraş
TexCycle is a sustainable textile upcycling and fashion innovation center located in Kahramanmaraş, a major textile production city in Turkey. Established within the Necip Fazıl Kısakürek Cultural Center area, TexCycle addresses the environmental impact of fast fashion and promotes circular practices through design, education, and community engagement.
The center includes workshops, co-working spaces, educational areas, and social zones that support designers, students, and locals in transforming textile waste into new, functional, or artistic products. A unique feature of TexCycle is its holographic fashion show, which showcases upcycled designs in an innovative, low-waste format. This immersive experience raises awareness about sustainability while minimizing material use.
The architectural design integrates open, semi-open, and enclosed spaces with a focus on flexibility, reuse, and modularity. Parts of the existing cultural structure are adapted and enhanced using recycled materials, especially on façades, aligning with the project’s eco-conscious mission. By combining tradition, innovation, and environmental responsibility, it aims to inspire new ways of thinking in the textile industry.
