GLITCH: A Social Innovation Hub at the Intersection of Digital Culture, Social Interaction, and Urban Belonging

This project is conceived as a social innovation hub positioned at the intersection of digital culture, social interaction, and public belonging. Inspired by the aesthetic of “glitch,” which embraces system errors as opportunities for creative transformation, the design embodies this concept both physically and conceptually through a modular, flexible, and layered architectural language.

The project consists of two main components:

GLITCH: Math of NFK – This digital hub, attached to the existing cultural center, is composed of modular cubes shaped through a parametric design logic. The joining and separating patterns of the cubes allow for programmatic diversity and urban inclusivity. The original plan of the cultural center, based on a 3-unit grid, became the mathematical foundation for the newly integrated building system.

Living Room of the City – This space functions as an urban living room, composed of semi-open public areas that host exhibitions, events, resting zones, and informal interactions. It encourages social encounters and open-ended use.

Programmatically, the project includes a new exhibition core, temporary pavilions, an open-air cinema terrace, third places, and a concert/stage area, aiming to attract a diverse range of users. The integration of green pathways and courtyard planning enhances the spatial orientation and strengthens the open-air experience.

The structural system is supported by digital fabrication techniques, articulated through transparency, porosity, and the interplay of enclosed and open spaces. Architecturally, the project aspires to offer a technologically and socially innovative environment, fully integrated with the urban context while remaining accessible and inviting.Ultimately, this proposal envisions a new type of public space, rethinking urbanity through the dynamic lens of the digital age.
