Interface of Maraş

Interface of Maraş-Elif Savaş

Interface of Maraş is a new generation youth and community center that aims to integrate into the social and spatial fabric of Kahramanmaraş. The project is located in the garden of Necip Fazıl Kısakürek Cultural Center, preserving the existing urban memory while presenting a vision for the future through innovative interventions. The concept of “Interface” symbolizes creating an interface between different user profiles, disciplines and time periods.

The entrance part of the existing cultural center was removed, this area was turned into a public interface, the façade of the building was stripped and the structural system was exposed. Thus, a design language that respects the existing structure but transforms it with a contemporary intervention is adopted.

The design offers a flexible and permeable fiction by connecting public spaces with semi-open and closed spaces. This setup hosts multi-layered functions such as social innovation, entrepreneurship, co-production, education and cultural events. Supported by the Society 5.0 approach, the center aims for a participatory and sustainable social development that integrates technology and people.

The project works as a connective surface that creates opportunities for innovation, interaction and production for all urbanites, especially young people, in an area with traces of the past. Interface of Maraş offers the city a new ground for social interaction and development.
