Innovative Roots / Ömer Bilgehan

This project aims to establish a connection between the past and the future by blending traditional craft culture with modern production techniques. Located in an area surrounded by the historical texture of Kayseri, the center aims to both keep the craft heritage of the region alive and provide experience of innovative production processes. The theme of “Bridge Between Craft and Industry” not only compares old and new techniques, but also brings these two worlds together and complements each other. The aim is to add “life experience” and “spirit” to the products by adding modern touches to traditional production processes.

Spatially, the project includes workshops, library, exhibition halls, auditorium, multi-purpose hall, administrative units, cafeteria and landscape areas. The functions have been carefully designed to maximize the user experience. While the auditorium and multi-purpose hall host large organizations, the exhibition areas allow for permanent and temporary exhibitions. The workshops are designed as spaces where both traditional and modern techniques can be learned and applied.

Circulation is organized to provide a fluid experience. The landscaping, which creates buffer zones between the school, the center and the historical dome, provides both integration and visual and physical boundaries between the spaces. Starting from the green area in front of the historical dome, visitors have the opportunity to experience the story of the craft from the past to the future.
