Materia / Vildan Yıldırım

This is Materia: a celebration of matter, mindfulness, and making.

“Materia” is rooted in the idea of connecting with the essence of materials—their origins, transformations, and limitless potential. This art and craft center celebrates the journey of matter, inviting participants to slow down and engage deeply with the creation process. It’s a space where the act of making becomes a mindful exploration, bridging tradition and innovation.

Inspired by Kayseri’s industrial heritage, Materia provides an alternative to the fast-paced culture of mass production. Through workshops and shared experiences, it redefines our relationship with materials by focusing on their story: from raw state to crafted artifact. Each step of the process—researching, experimenting, and sharing—encourages participants to appreciate the value of the materials they often take for granted.

Materia is more than a place for craftsmanship; it is a philosophy. It transforms the act of making into an experience of reflection and discovery, creating a dialogue between people, materials, and the built environment. Whether exploring the strength of concrete, the warmth of wood, or the flexibility of steel, participants gain a renewed understanding of how materials shape their world and their creativity.
