Inspired by the strong connection of Kayseri Merkez Vocational and Technical High School to technology, I designed a project based on the concept of Media Arts. Media Arts is a discipline that merges technology with creative expression, encompassing subcategories such as digital art, interactive art, video art, internet art, and sound art. In this center, specialized spaces were designed for activities related to each subcategory.
The building’s layout was organized along a linear axis extending from the entrance towards the kümbet (domed structure). Considering the minimal light requirements of Media Arts activities, these units were designed as underground spaces. Access to these spaces was facilitated by a ramp along the linear axis, ensuring spatial flow and continuity.
Each sub-unit offers a unique atmosphere: the digital art section is equipped with holographic screens, the interactive art areas are enriched with motion-sensor installations, and the sound art zone is designed with acoustic details. Additionally, the project was enriched with shared spaces such as an auditorium, workshop areas, studios, and a library. This project serves as a hub that integrates contemporary art and technology, while harmonizing Kayseri’s historical and modern fabric.
