CARVEN FLOW / Mahroof Ahmed Ansari
The concept of my project revolves around the ideas of carving and trying to design and create spaces that can make people learn and do experiments with carving. Incorporating the value of fluidity of spaces inside a cave and trying to give the ambiance and feeling to the people as if they are dwelling in a space where they can experience and experiment with carving activities.
Dwelling is not just a shelter or a mere living place, rather it is a lifestyle that develops with people and building where people feel as a part of it. It is a complex where people experience their part of life and a sense of belonging.
My site was located a bit far from the main square as we walk ahead of the bridge on the way towards the monastery. The idea of the project was to settle on both sides of the valley and to create a gathering open space having some open carving stations in between for the people.
Carving is a vital aspect and in early sinasos the people used to carve into tuff stones in order to build their living spaces (caves, monasteries.) The concept ideas are to make people experience those carving techniques along with some new experiments so that they can make personalized furniture, small ornaments for themselves. This will help to develop a connection between the people and the space making it as their dwelling project.
Along with the accommodation spaces, in the project, people will be able to experience carving exercises with the tools and materials. The idea is to give people comfort and a feeling of being included in. Working as a community as in a habitation in creating large pieces of carvings will help in the social interactions. Show casing their works so that their exercises will be attached in that project and will create memories for the people.
