Cuart: An Education and Culture Center in the Heart of Kahramanmaraş

The CuArt project in Üngüt Neighborhood of Kahramanmaraş is designed as an education hub, inspired by the city’s rich history. While researching the cultural background of Kahramanmaraş, we discovered that coppersmithing is a traditional craft. This important cultural value became the starting point of our project. CuArt is not only a place for education, but also a space for production, exhibition, and social activities.

The architectural form of the project is shaped by the axes coming from the roads of the neighborhood. In this way, the design is integrated with its surroundings and respects the structure of the local area. Since unemployment is a big issue in Üngüt, CuArt has an important social role. Local people can learn coppersmithing here and sell their handmade products in the exhibition area, giving them the chance to earn extra income.

Inside CuArt, there is also a coppersmithing museum that tells the history of this craft in Kahramanmaraş. Visitors can learn about the past and the development of this traditional art. There is also a cafe on site, where participants and guests can meet and spend time together.

CuArt is a multipurpose center that combines local traditions with modern needs. It helps improve the local economy and protects cultural heritage at the same time. With this project, we aim to improve the quality of life for local people and carry the cultural richness of Kahramanmaraş into the future.
