Environment to Therapy

Abration is a design philosophy that reimagines Mustafapaşa’s architectural and social fabric by focusing on the courtyard as the central element of spatial organization. Rooted in the village’s historical context, this approach transforms courtyards from simple enclosures into versatile spaces that balance privacy, community, and environmental interaction. Each courtyard is carefully designed to serve dual purposes: as private sanctuaries where residents can retreat for relaxation and as shared areas that foster social engagement and cultural exchange. This duality creates a harmonious living environment that reflects the rhythm of daily life in Mustafapaşa.

The design emphasizes the therapeutic qualities of courtyards, incorporating natural elements like greenery, water features, and open sky views to promote physical and mental well-being. These spaces are optimized for natural ventilation, sunlight, and shade, creating microclimates that respond to the region’s environmental conditions. This integration of natural and built elements not only ensures comfort but also reinforces a connection to nature, making courtyards dynamic environments for reflection and rejuvenation.

In addition to their role in private and communal life, the courtyards act as platforms for sustainable practices and educational opportunities, such as workshops, gardening, and cultural events, fostering a deeper sense of community and shared responsibility. Through Abration, the project transforms Mustafapaşa into a model of contemporary living that honors its historical heritage while adapting to modern needs, offering an innovative, inclusive, and therapeutic approach to architectural design. This vision positions the courtyard as both the heart of the village and a symbol of its enduring vitality.
