MULTILEVATION / Şimal Koşmaz

Dwelling is not just being physically present in a place or having a barrier between you and the outside. Dwelling is belonging to a place. For this reason, designing a dwelling means designing a place where people will feel like they belong, no matter how long they stay.

The creation of a micro village in Sinasos is an ambitious project that seeks to merge the rich historical fabric of the area with modern architectural practices, fostering a deep sense of belonging and community. Multilevation is not just a collection of buildings, but a thoughtfully designed space where history, culture, and modernity coexist harmoniously. Central to the design are a bazaar, accommodation, museum, and workshop areas, each serving a specific purpose while contributing to the overall sense of community and connection.

The bazaar acts as the heartbeat of the village, a vibrant space where residents and visitors can come together to trade goods, share stories, and celebrate local culture. Drawing inspiration from traditional market structures, the bazaar is designed to encourage interaction, with open spaces and flexible layouts that allow for a dynamic exchange between people and products. It is not only a commercial hub but also a place where social ties are strengthened, reinforcing the idea that dwelling is about belonging to something greater than oneself.

Accommodation within the project blends the old and new, offering modern comforts while retaining the charm and warmth of Sinasos’ traditional architecture. The dwellings are designed with sustainability and community in mind, incorporating local materials that honor the region’s heritage.

The museum serves as a bridge between past and present, offering visitors and residents a chance to engage with the rich history of Sinasos. It showcases the village’s architectural evolution, cultural practices, and local art, ensuring that the story of the community is preserved for future generations. Meanwhile, the workshop areas provide a space for creative expression and skill development, encouraging local craftsmanship and collaboration.

Ultimately, this project is designed as a space where architecture nurtures connection, where the past informs the present, and where the feeling of belonging is not just a concept but a lived experience. It stands as a testament to the power of design to create meaningful, sustainable communities.
