MNOSYNE / Fatıma Koyuncu
The Mnemosyne project is based on the idea of creating a continuous urban axis by bringing together spatial nodes of different qualities at the city scale. The city’s heavily used pedestrian and vehicle roads, natural green nodes, public meeting areas and traces of historical layers are combined in a holistic context on a route leading to the Üngüt region.
In this context, the Tumulus, determined as the focal point in Üngüt, has been transformed into both a spatial and symbolic center of attraction. The museum, which is the main structure of the project, is designed to embrace the tumulus and establish a spatial duality with it. This duality emphasizes the relationship between the tumulus, which represents the silence of the past, and the museum, which is the space of contemporary narrative.
Temporary and permanent exhibition areas are separated within the museum structure, providing a flexible structure that can host different periods, themes or artists. In addition, the café, which is designed independently of the museum program, both allows for social interaction between visitors and supports the public function of the structure.
The Mnemosyne Project is a museum design shaped around the tumulus in Üngüt, connecting the past and present along the urban axis, supporting flexible exhibition spaces and public interaction.
