This project takes place in the Artists’ Street in Kayseri Castle. Artists’ Street (Sanatçılar Sokağı) has largely been overlooked by the local community, resulting in a noticeable decline in activity and public engagement within the area. The purpose of the project is enhance the connection between the castle interior and its urban surroundings. To address this issue, a series of functional and cultural plug-in modules were designed. These modules follow an L-shaped form and incorporate a 1:2 scale ratio between workshop and exhibition spaces. The project focuses on three traditional crafts: pottery, ceramics, and tile-making. Each craft is given its own workshop and exhibition area, forming a clear spatial and experiential sequence.

The modules are installed by either suspending them within existing voids or allowing them to make contact with the historic structure in a carefully controlled manner. This approach aims to achieve a balanced integration of old and new elements. Circulation is supported by stairs and a lift, with modules positioned at varying heights to enhance spatial diversity. The visitor journey begins at the helpdesk and ends at the gift shop, with each craft following a linear sequence: workshop first, then exhibition. The ground floor includes the helpdesk, two toilets, the pottery workshop, and the gift shop. On the second floor, visitors find the pottery exhibition and the ceramics workshop. The third floor hosts the ceramics exhibition, the tile workshop, and the tile exhibition. The project incorporates a balanced mix of open, semi-open, and enclosed spaces, allowing flexibility for different weather conditions and user needs. The primary construction materials are glass and concrete, selected for their structural clarity and ability to contrast yet complement the historical setting.
