LIVING THE MOMENT / Elif Kılıç

LIVING THE MOMENT / Elif Kılıç

With the aim of preserving the historical texture of Kayseri Castle while introducing a contemporary spatial experience, I developed a project based on temporary and removable modules. The plug-in system I designed consists of lightweight and eco-conscious components that can be integrated without any physical intervention to the existing structure.

The modules serve a variety of social and cultural purposes, including clay-making workshops, cafeteria and dining areas, an open-air theater stage, and spaces for live music performances. Each module is designed as a micro-space that encourages visitor participation and interaction. These areas are carefully placed in harmony with the castle’s spirit and can be installed without leaving any permanent marks.

The circulation path that connects the modules functions not only as a walkway but also as an exhibition route. Along this path, I include informational panels and visual content about the history of the castle, as well as hand-crafted clay objects I produce in the workshops. In this way, visitors can encounter the same works they’ve seen being made, creating a layered and engaging experience within the space.

Through this project, I aim not only to preserve the historical structure but also to reinterpret it with my own design language and reconnect it with today’s users.
