Scaffold Interventions for Cultural Revitalization – Kayseri Castle Wall

This project proposes a series of scaffold-based modular interventions along the historical wall of Kayseri Castle, aiming to reactivate the cultural void inside the castle and the underutilized Artist Street outside. Each unit is carefully designed to serve specific musical and social functions, reprogramming the wall as an active transitional space.

At the center, the historic burç acts as a vertical circulation core, equipped with an elevator that connects different levels and bridges the two sides. This central tower becomes a threshold — not only physically, but socially and acoustically.

The left wing hosts a rehearsal zone and a semi-open performance courtyard, allowing musicians to practice and perform in more informal, flexible settings. These spaces encourage public interaction and spontaneous cultural exchange.

The right wing includes a concert hall and a social café, serving as the main venue for structured events and audience gathering. These units are oriented toward the public and designed to create acoustic and visual continuity between the historical wall and new cultural activities.

All units are based on a modular scaffold system, which allows reversible construction, minimal damage to the heritage wall, and flexibility in usage. Through a combination of open, semi-open, and closed spaces, the design invites users to explore, pause, listen, and connect—physically and culturally—across the once-dividing wall.
