Mnmosıs & Errant
This project was developed within the scope of ARCH 101: Basic Design and explores the relationship between form, movement, memory, and production through a speculative architectural narrative. Rather than designing a conventional city with a fixed plan, the project proposes Mnmosis as a city defined by behavior, repetition, and process. The spatial organization of Mnmosis is not centered around a single axis or hierarchy. Instead, the city is structured through continuous movement and cyclical production. Curvilinear paths, spirals, and spherical volumes guide circulation, allowing spaces to emerge through motion rather than static planning. Architecture in this context does not aim for permanence; it constantly reproduces itself through use. Each element exists to support a system of making, erasing, and remaking. The primary inhabitants of Mnmosis are called Errants. These beings move on a single wheel and exist in constant motion. Their role is to produce ideas, which materialize as spatial forms within the city. At the end of each cycle, their memories are erased to ensure continuity and efficiency within the system. However, not all Errants respond to this process in the same way. While many follow identical routes repeatedly, some deviate, generating unexpected paths and alternative spatial outcomes. These deviations challenge the perfection of the system and introduce moments of difference within repetition. At the core of the city lies the Ink Center, a central structure that functions both as a resource and a public space. Ink is the essential material that sustains the Errants, enabling production and movement. This central structure recalls the idea of Fedora, a city imagined through multiple possible versions rather than a single definitive form. Similarly, Mnmosis exists as a collection of potential outcomes shaped by choice, memory, and loss. The physical model reflects these ideas through layered circulation, open voids, and interwoven forms. White material was intentionally used to emphasize form, shadow, and continuity without distraction. The project ultimately questions whether a system built on repetition can truly eliminate difference, or whether deviation is an inevitable outcome of production itself.
