THE CITY OF MORIEN

Morien is a city where symmetry and asymmetry exist as parts of a continuous life cycle. The Morans live according to a daily rhythm that connects movement, construction, destruction, and nourishment. Each day, they leave the symmetrical part of the city, which represents order and stability, and move toward the asymmetrical zone. In this area, they break down irregular structures and separate them into pieces. These broken elements are not wasted; instead, they are used to rebuild and strengthen the symmetrical city and to nourish the mori mori flower, which is the main food source of the Morans. The living areas of the city are formed by enclosed, diamond-shaped spaces. These spaces organize daily life while helping the city maintain its strong symmetrical structure. At the center of Morien, a semi-open and carefully protected area is reserved only for the mori mori plant. Its central location clearly shows its importance, both as a source of food and as a symbol of balance within the city. From the upper living levels, open spaces allow the Morans to observe the growth and expansion of the city, creating a visual connection between everyday life and the city’s long-term development. In the middle level, they reach the crown of the mori mori flower, where they carefully prune it in order to feed themselves without harming its growth. In the lower level, semi-open spaces bring the Morans together, allowing them to gather, socialize, and communicate. In contrast to the ordered center, the asymmetrical part of the city contains structures that do not match the body scale of the Morans. These spaces are either too small or too large, making them uncomfortable and unsuitable for living. Because of these physical problems and their obsessive need for symmetry, the Morans continue to destroy this area. Through this repeating process of building, breaking, observing, feeding, and socializing, Morien constantly renews itself, and symmetry and asymmetry remain in balance as parts of the same living system.
