SPECULLİA / HACER BAHADIR

The Essence of Specullia

Inspired by Italo Calvino’s Eusopia, Specullia is a city defined by a seamless duality. Composed of two distinct halves, City A and City B, it exists in a state where the two parts remain invisible to one another yet are bound by absolute symbiotic necessity.Design and Structure The city’s architecture harmonizes nature and technology through mirroring hierarchy and circularity. Machine-like platforms are perched atop lush greenery, their symmetrical structures symbolizing universal balance. Connecting the urban fabric are circular paths that represent the continuous flow of life and energy. The spatial organization reflects a clear hierarchy: The heights of the platforms also indicate the hierarchy of their functionalities. Additionally, a hierarchy of closure and openness can be clearly observed between these separate forms. The Grand Dome: Positioned at the pinnacle, it serves as the city’s visual crown and functional core, governing the entire system. Technological Organs: İnside the dome, heat-balancing panels, data-transfer systems, and rotating charging stations safeguard the city’s digital and thermal health. Variable Scales: Facilities such as plant refineries and maintenance areas maintain identical forms and repetition but vary in size and height to reflect their specific roles and importance within the urban fabric. The Symbiotic Loop Specullia operates as a closed-loop system. A central lift connects the Grand Dome to the charging stations, facilitating a vital exchange. The two halves of specullia communicate through a silent stream of real-time data, monitoring fuel consumption and maintenance frequency. This is a cycle of mutual nourishment: City A processes data from City B to refine specialized plant extracts and fuels, while City B simultaneously performs the same task for City A. In Specullia, the inhabitants of one side never encounter the other, yet their very survival is sustained by the invisible labor of their mirrored counterpart.
