NEXT GEN R&D C’CITY CENTER / BARIŞ BİLGİ

Located southwest of Atatürk Boulevard in Sivas, the 30,000 m² project area has been conceived with the “Next Gen R&D and C’City Center” concept, taking into account the city’s existing development dynamics and historical layers. Analyses have revealed that the area, situated in Sivas’s new development zone and at the center of the university-square-industry axis, possesses the potential to be a strong secondary square that complements, rather than competes with, the existing historical square. Historical and geographical readings have determined that water in Sivas historically served as a natural settlement boundary (wall). The fact that the intersection opposite the project area is located on the old city wall line, and the Mısmılırmak River, planned as an adjacent area, makes this region not only an urban focal point but also a strong recreational area. In this context, the project is built on a pedestrian-prioritized design that strengthens interaction with its surroundings through circulation maps.

The proposed structure is designed as an informal education and R&D center integrated with municipal functions, where university members, students, and industry experts can conduct raw material research together, and which also supports intergenerational knowledge transfer. The inner courtyard/city square, conceived between the two main masses, is the focal point of public life. The ground floors house functions with high public accessibility, such as an auditorium, educational areas, a book cafe, a cafeteria, a public service desk, and a first-aid station. The landscape design offers a holistic public experience with a green amphitheater and festival area to the north, a city park and recreation axis to the east, and controlled vehicular access and open parking to the southwest. With transparent facades, climate-sensitive low-e glass, sloping columns, and a roof design with a rainwater harvesting system, the building aims to provide Sivas with a new public focal point as a transparent, accessible, and sustainable secondary city center.
