THE LIGHT WITHIN \/ Islam Sahraou\u0131<\/h3>\n

The Light Within is a well-being museum designed as a sanctuary for healing,
\nreflection, and reconnection in post-earthquake Kahramanmara\u015f. In a city facing
\nemotional trauma, a lack of mental health infrastructure, and a critical shortage of
\ngreen spaces, this project offers a therapeutic and sensory-based environment rooted
\nin nature and community.
\nThe museum hosts a wide range of programs including yoga and meditation halls,
\nphysical and herbal therapy areas, group and individual therapy rooms, a sound
\ntherapy dome, and a unique Interactive Body Map space. Visitors are invited to slow
\ndown and engage with multi-sensory experiences\u2014from the Tactile Room to energy
\nhealing spaces and temporary exhibitions centered on emotional and physical well
\nbeing. The design emphasizes softness, comfort, and interaction\u2014through sound, light,
\ntexture, and natural materials.
\nA central symbolic feature of the museum is a large tree planted at the heart of the
\nbuilding, representing life, growth, and rootedness. This tree rises toward an open
\nskylight above, connecting the interior to the sky. In moments of strong wind or heavy
\nrain, a retractable mechanical fabric canopy gently covers the top, protecting the
\nspace while maintaining its softness and lightness. This dynamic element reflects the
\nmuseum\u2019s balance between shelter and openness\u2014just like healing itself.
\nThe decision to locate the museum in a more distant, peaceful part of the city was
\nintentional. This setting enables the creation of a generous landscape experience.
\nSurrounded by greenery, the museum offers herbal gardens, outdoor meditation
\nterraces, and tranquil views. This detachment from the city\u2019s center supports deeper
\nreflection and creates a quiet, immersive journey toward emotional well-being.
