Briefly describing this city, Ottavia is called the “spider-web city” in the book. The city is located between two mountains, and everything in the city is suspended in the air with ropes. For this reason, trust is very important in this city. Based on all of this, I first created a creature and named it Soldotta. This name is actually an abbreviation of “Soldiers of Ottavia.” When I describe the features of my creature, it can fly and move between spaces by attaching its feet to sticks. It carries all of its belongings on its body. It always lives with only as much as it needs, because it knows that the ropes can never carry more than that. After creating this creature, I designed a living environment for it. In the small city I created, I designed the buildings in pyramid forms. To explain the life cycle of the Soldotta together with the spaces I designed: Soldottas are first produced in the production center. Then they go to the resting area and rest. After that, they receive training in the training center and rest again. When they finish resting, they go to the social area, where they produce trust by talking with other creatures and Soldottas. Then they distribute this trust to other creatures. In the city I designed, trust is not an emotion but an object that can be exchanged. After this, they go to the energy storage area and gain energy by doing pull-ups. Then they fly to the observation tower and observe the city. From there, they go to the energy production station, produce energy for the next cycle, and send it to the storage. After that, they rest and fly to the observation tower again to check the city one last time. Finally, to complete their cycle, they return to the production center to renew their bodies and enter a new cycle.

SOLDOTTA’S PLACE In my project, I was inspired by the city of Ottavia from Italo Calvino’s book Invisible Cities.
