The significant contribution of the course is to equip the students to conduct research and design on the fundamentals of building technologies and their application to buildings. The “Environmental Control” module mainly tackles energy efficiency, fire safety, lighting design, acoustic design, and sanitary installation issues focusing on the current technological advances and innovations in the construction industry. The importance of the integrated and inter- and transdisciplinary collaborations are also part of these discussions. The students analyze the Housing Project developed during the ARCH222 Elements & Components 2 course, and projects developed during Architectural Design 3 and Architectural Design 4 studios in terms of environmental control issues to understand and interpret the necessary revisions. They prepare a construction drawing package, including the building service systems designs, to enrich and finalize their previous design. During the “Environmentally Responsible Architecture” module, the current issues considered critical for the built and natural environment are discussed through environmentally responsible architecture and green building envelopes subjects. The students design a Green Building Envelope for the Housing Project developed during the ARCH222 Elements & Components 2 course, or projects developed during Architectural Design 3 and Architectural Design 4 studios by following the environmentally responsible architecture principles. At the end of this module, they prepare technical drawings and three-dimensional digital models to represent their design ideas.

Course Instructors:

Assoc.
