The project is positioned at a strategic urban intersection connecting Mimar Sinan Park, Kurşunlu Mosque, the Grand Bazaar, Kayseri Castle, and the city square. Rather than functioning solely as a transit facility, the project aims to redefine transportation infrastructure as an active public space that supports movement, interaction, and urban life.

The primary design strategy is based on strengthening pedestrian continuity within the city center. Existing vehicular traffic creates a physical barrier between important cultural and commercial destinations. To overcome this condition, the vehicular road is relocated to a lower level, allowing pedestrians to move safely and uninterruptedly between the park, historic landmarks, and commercial districts. Public transportation remains fully integrated into the project through tram and bus connections, while prioritizing pedestrian experience at the ground level.

The defining architectural element of the project is a lightweight folded canopy that extends across the site. Supported by a steel structural system and covered with a semitransparent ETFE panels, the canopy establishes a permeable and visually connected environment. It provides protection from climate conditions while maintaining openness, natural light, and visual continuity throughout the site. As the roof extends toward Mimar Sinan Park, it gradually touches the ground and transforms into an amphitheater, creating a seamless transition between architecture and landscape.

Urban Veil is conceived as a contemporary “third space” where transportation, social interaction, cultural production, and public life coexist. Semi-open gathering spaces, cafés, artisan retail units, and flexible public areas are integrated beneath the canopy, encouraging people not only to pass through the site but also to stay, interact, and participate. Through transparency, connectivity, and spatial continuity, the project transforms a transportation hub into a vibrant urban destination.

Urban Veil is a transportation hub located in the historical and commercial center of Kayseri.
