The project’s starting point is the recycling of leftover materials from the surrounding high-density production centers and industrial areas. This approach aims to make visible the entire cycle of wood, from raw material to finished product, by bringing together technical-practical training, digital design, and production under one roof.

At the heart of the design is the central tree atrium, which also gives the building its name. This reference to the natural origin of wood is not only a symbolic gesture but also the main focal point organizing the plan. Through the relationship between the workshops, training spaces, and exhibition areas located around the atrium, the production process is opened to the visitor; thus, the user encounters not only the finished product but also the labor and process behind it.

The diagonal geometry of the plan emphasizes the central atrium and directs circulation around it. The basement parking lot, ground floor, and first floor distribute the production, education, and exhibition program in a staggered manner, ensuring fluidity between functions. The glass lattice roof covering the workshop spaces lets in natural light, providing balanced, shadowless illumination for the work and production areas; the transparent facade facing east extends the atrium outwards, creating a strong indoor-outdoor connection.

The building is conceived not as a self-contained mass, but as a threshold that engages in dialogue with the city. The geometric water feature and landscaped square at ground level create a public meeting space that connects the building to its surrounding fabric. Ultimately, The Rooted Atrium can be interpreted as a sustainable and experience-oriented learning center that intertwines education and production, community and space, and the nature of wood with human labor.

MODEL PHOTOS:

The Rooted Atrium is conceived as a community-oriented learning environment that combines the production of wood-based decorative furniture with education and exhibition.
