{"id":8953,"date":"2026-06-30T12:45:04","date_gmt":"2026-06-30T12:45:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/archworks.agu.edu.tr\/?p=8953"},"modified":"2026-06-30T12:45:04","modified_gmt":"2026-06-30T12:45:04","slug":"urban-seam-gulsen-akin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/archworks.agu.edu.tr\/index.php\/2026\/06\/30\/urban-seam-gulsen-akin\/","title":{"rendered":"URBAN SEAM \/ G\u00dcL\u015eEN AKIN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The\u00a0Urban\u00a0Seam\u00a0project\u00a0is\u00a0based\u00a0on\u00a0the\u00a0idea of\u00a0creating\u00a0an urban\u00a0stitch\u00a0that\u00a0reconnects\u00a0fragmented\u00a0pedestrian\u00a0movement,\u00a0transportation\u00a0flows,\u00a0and\u00a0public\u00a0spaces\u00a0within\u00a0the\u00a0city.\u00a0The\u00a0main\u00a0aim\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0project\u00a0is\u00a0to\u00a0design\u00a0the\u00a0transportation\u00a0hub\u00a0not\u00a0only\u00a0as a\u00a0technical\u00a0transit\u00a0point, but\u00a0also\u00a0as a\u00a0third\u00a0space\u00a0where\u00a0people\u00a0wait,\u00a0meet,\u00a0orient\u00a0themselves,\u00a0and\u00a0reconnect\u00a0with\u00a0the\u00a0urban\u00a0environment.\u00a0In\u00a0this\u00a0sense,\u00a0the\u00a0red\u00a0circulation\u00a0lines\u00a0represent\u00a0the\u00a0traces\u00a0of\u00a0movement\u00a0coming\u00a0from\u00a0different\u00a0directions.\u00a0These\u00a0lines\u00a0act\u00a0as an urban spine\u00a0that\u00a0stitches\u00a0separated\u00a0areas\u00a0together\u00a0and\u00a0creates\u00a0a\u00a0readable\u00a0route\u00a0for\u00a0users.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0The\u00a0map\u00a0graphic\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0upper-right\u00a0part\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0cover\u00a0shows\u00a0the\u00a0project\u2019s\u00a0decisions\u00a0at\u00a0the\u00a0urban\u00a0scale.\u00a0The\u00a0fine\u00a0linework\u00a0represents\u00a0the\u00a0existing\u00a0urban\u00a0fabric,\u00a0while\u00a0the\u00a0stronger\u00a0red\u00a0lines\u00a0indicate\u00a0proposed\u00a0pedestrian\u00a0flows,\u00a0gathering\u00a0points,\u00a0and\u00a0public\u00a0continuity.\u00a0Therefore,\u00a0the\u00a0project\u00a0is\u00a0considered\u00a0not\u00a0only\u00a0at\u00a0the\u00a0scale\u00a0of a\u00a0single\u00a0building, but\u00a0also\u00a0together\u00a0with\u00a0the\u00a0surrounding\u00a0square,\u00a0transportation\u00a0axes,\u00a0pedestrian\u00a0connections,\u00a0and\u00a0urban\u00a0voids.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0The\u00a0pavilion\u00a0shown\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0perspective\u00a0view\u00a0is\u00a0the\u00a0architectural\u00a0expression\u00a0of\u00a0this\u00a0urban\u00a0seam.\u00a0Its\u00a0red\u00a0roof,\u00a0flowing\u00a0form,\u00a0and\u00a0organic\u00a0surfaces\u00a0emphasize\u00a0continuity\u00a0and\u00a0movement.\u00a0The\u00a0thin\u00a0columns\u00a0give\u00a0the\u00a0structure\u00a0a\u00a0light,\u00a0permeable,\u00a0and\u00a0inviting\u00a0character.\u00a0The\u00a0strong\u00a0horizontal\u00a0effect\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0roof\u00a0connects\u00a0with\u00a0the\u00a0red\u00a0ground\u00a0path,\u00a0creating\u00a0both\u00a0direction\u00a0and\u00a0spatial\u00a0continuity\u00a0for\u00a0the\u00a0user.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0The\u00a0mosque\u00a0silhouette\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0background\u00a0refers\u00a0to\u00a0the\u00a0existing\u00a0historical\u00a0urban\u00a0context.\u00a0This\u00a0relationship\u00a0shows\u00a0that\u00a0the\u00a0project\u00a0is not\u00a0only\u00a0a\u00a0new\u00a0transportation\u00a0structure, but\u00a0also\u00a0an\u00a0intermediate\u00a0space\u00a0that\u00a0connects\u00a0with\u00a0the\u00a0memory\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0city. A\u00a0deliberate\u00a0contrast\u00a0is\u00a0created\u00a0between\u00a0the\u00a0modern\u00a0pavilion\u00a0form\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0historical\u00a0surroundings. At\u00a0the\u00a0same\u00a0time,\u00a0the\u00a0open\u00a0public\u00a0areas\u00a0allow\u00a0users\u00a0to\u00a0approach\u00a0the\u00a0structure\u00a0from\u00a0different\u00a0directions.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Overall, Urban\u00a0Seam\u00a0proposes\u00a0a\u00a0design\u00a0approach\u00a0that\u00a0activates\u00a0urban\u00a0voids,\u00a0transforms\u00a0movement\u00a0into\u00a0space,\u00a0and\u00a0turns\u00a0the\u00a0transportation\u00a0hub\u00a0into\u00a0a\u00a0social\u00a0focal\u00a0point\u00a0within\u00a0the\u00a0city.<\/span><span \u00a0The\u00a0pavilion\u00a0shown\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0perspective\u00a0view\u00a0is\u00a0the\u00a0architectural\u00a0expression\u00a0of\u00a0this\u00a0urban\u00a0seam.\u00a0Its\u00a0red\u00a0roof,\u00a0flowing\u00a0form,\u00a0and\u00a0organic\u00a0surfaces\u00a0emphasize\u00a0continuity\u00a0and\u00a0movement.\u00a0The\u00a0thin\u00a0columns\u00a0give\u00a0the\u00a0structure\u00a0a\u00a0light,\u00a0permeable,\u00a0and\u00a0inviting\u00a0character.\u00a0The\u00a0strong\u00a0horizontal\u00a0effect\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0roof\u00a0connects\u00a0with\u00a0the\u00a0red\u00a0ground\u00a0path,\u00a0creating\u00a0both\u00a0direction\u00a0and\u00a0spatial\u00a0continuity\u00a0for\u00a0the\u00a0user.\u00a0
