F25 ARCH101 Design 1: Basic Design

Course Explanation:

The studio introduces students to design as a sensory, experimental process. Through exercises focused on touch, perception, and interaction, students explore spatial thinking beyond visual representation. Students investigate the behaviors and potentials of materials and experiment with intangible phenomena. Emphasis is placed on making as a method of thinking, where hands-on exploration leads to spatial awareness.    Students are encouraged to draw from their everyday environments and lived experiences as platforms for learning, observation, and spatial experimentation. Through bodily engagement with space, students develop their ability to observe, interpret, and generate design ideas grounded in sensory experience. Rather than aiming for finalized products, the course prioritizes iterative processes and encourages intuitive and critical engagement with space, form, and experience.
