Confluence is a proposed transportation hub project in Kayseri city center. The project aims not only to create a transfer point that brings together different modes of transport, but also to create a new urban focus that supports public life. The main starting point of the design is to transform the intersection of human movements and green continuity into a spatial experience. In this direction, the project considers transportation infrastructure not only as a functional system, but also as an urban organization tool that supports social interaction and public use.
Today, transportation hubs are mostly used only as transit spaces and limit the relationship between users and the city. Confluence transforms this understanding and proposes a holistic public space that brings together transportation functions with social, cultural and ecological layers. Within the scope of the project, tram, bus and pedestrian circulations are organized under a single system, while spaces where users not only move but also spend time, interact and participate in urban life are designed. Exhibition areas, commercial units, waiting areas and open public spaces are considered as elements that enrich the transportation experience.
The most defining element of the design is the walkable green roof system, which rises from the ground and connects back to the ground. This surface is designed not only as a building envelope but also as a new public landscape that users can experience. Green areas, seating points and circulation routes created along the roof invite users to the building, producing public interactions at different scales. Thus, the boundaries between the building and the landscape are blurred, and the architecture and natural environment are integrated into a single system. The triangular skylights promote natural lighting, while the dynamic geometry of the roof gives the structure a strong and contemporary architectural identity.
The project’s sustainability approach is not limited to the use of green spaces. Maximum use of natural lighting, green roof applications and design decisions that support energy efficiency aim to increase environmental performance. At the same time, thanks to its wide pedestrian connections and accessible circulation systems, it is aimed that individuals of all ages and different user profiles can easily use the building.
Confluence considers transportation infrastructure as an opportunity that shapes urban life rather than a technical necessity. Combining the concepts of movement, connection, and green continuity, the project aims to create an accessible, sustainable, and contemporary public hub for Kayseri. Thanks to this approach, the transportation hub is transformed into a new urban focal point that brings together different user groups, supports daily life and contributes to urban identity.
