URBAN WEAVE / MUHAMMET ŞÜKRÜ ŞAHİNER

Urban Weave is an urban and architectural proposal developed for Kayseri Cumhuriyet Square, addressing the fragmented relationship between public space, green infrastructure, and urban mobility. The project is driven by the idea that a transportation hub should not function merely as a point of transfer, but as an active civic destination that contributes to everyday urban life.

The design introduces a continuous green network that reconnects isolated open spaces across the city center and extends directly into the transportation hub. Rather than stopping at the site boundary, the landscape flows through the project, gradually transforming into architecture and shaping its spatial identity. This transition creates a seamless dialogue between the city, nature, and the built environment.

The program combines transportation with social and environmental functions, including tram and bus connections, bicycle rental and repair facilities, micromobility services, awareness exhibition spaces, kiosks, cafés, and an experiential cycling track. Together, these elements encourage sustainable mobility while creating opportunities for interaction, education, and public engagement.

The architectural language emerges from the logic of the landscape itself. Angular geometries and interconnected public spaces reinforce the concept of weaving, creating a dynamic sequence of movement and gathering rather than a single isolated building. Pedestrian and bicycle circulation are prioritized throughout the proposal, establishing a more accessible and human-centered urban experience.

By integrating ecology, mobility, and public life into a unified system, Urban Weave transforms the transportation hub into an extension of the public realm. The project proposes not only a new mobility infrastructure but also a vibrant green civic landscape that reconnects people, places, and movement within the heart of Kayseri.
