THE URBAN SEAM

The Urban Seam project is a visionary urban design and landscape architecture study aiming to reunite public spaces, historical layers, and social focal points that have become disconnected due to urban transformation processes, fragmented structures, and barriers created by transportation axes in Kayseri’s Civic Core. Based on the city’s morphological structure, the project takes the “seam” metaphor beyond a mere concept, transforming it into a physical, ecological, and social articulation strategy.

The strong pedestrian circulation networks, uninterrupted green infrastructure corridors, and open space configurations that form the backbone of the design build spatial continuity between the city’s periphery and its center. These holistic site plan decisions ensure the preservation of urban memory while simultaneously incorporating landscape solutions that enhance the ecological resilience of the area. The **Social Innovation** focuses, located at the functional and philosophical heart of the project, nourish this physical structure with social energy. Going beyond simply offering a spatial arrangement; The project creates interactive spaces that bring together people from different age groups around Kayseri’s rich traditional cuisine and endangered local handicrafts, building a dynamic bridge between generations. In this context, the project proposes flexible architectural programs that encourage local production, collective learning processes transmitted through master-apprentice relationships, interactions that keep cultural heritage alive, and civic participation.

In conclusion, Urban Seam presents a contemporary urban renewal model that successfully reconstructs the city both spatially and socially, establishing a sustainable, inclusive, and vibrant link between Kayseri’s rich history and the needs of modern urban life.
