RHIZOMETRACE
Rhizotrace proposes an urban network system that reveals the cultural and social traces of Kayseri that have gradually become invisible over time. Inspired by Deleuze and Guattari’s concept of the rhizome, the project reinterprets the city not as a fixed and hierarchical structure, but as a dynamic, decentralized, and relational network. This network spreads horizontally through both underground and above-ground layers, connecting transportation, commerce, public life, and green corridors.
Within this system, users are not only individuals who move through the city, but also active participants who produce new traces, memories, and interactions. In this way, the city becomes more than a static container of historical layers; it transforms into a living urban organism that continuously evolves through movement, encounter, and collective experience.
As part of the pedestrianization strategy, the project strengthens the connection between Camikebir Street and the square, creating a more accessible and continuous public route. The proposed Third Space rhizomes within the square function as flexible social nodes where people can gather, interact, rest, and participate in urban life. These spaces support the transformation of the square into a more active, inclusive, and vibrant public environment.
The Transportation Hub also plays a key role in reconnecting the underground level with the city. By enhancing access to the Underground Bazaar through digital experiences, the project makes this hidden urban layer more visible, attractive, and integrated into daily life. Through these spatial and experiential strategies, Rhizotrace aims to increase pedestrian movement, strengthen urban continuity, and reconnect Kayseri’s past and present within a constantly developing urban network.
